Abstract
1450844 Making wire lattices; welding by pressure; shearing BAUSTAHLGEWEBE GmbH 4 June 1974 [22 June 1973] 24585/74 Headings B3A B3R and B3W In making a welded lattice of longitudinal wires and transverse wire members, the longitudinal wires 1 and wires 5<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>a to form the transverse members 5a are fed in parallel relation towards the welding machine, the transverse wire members 5a are cut from the wire 5<SP>1</SP>a and are turned through 90 degrees and then the longitudinal wires and the transverse members 5a are fed together to the welding machine. Longitudinal wires 1, in an embodiment, are drawn from drums through straightening devices 3, 3a and then over lower rows of electrodes 4, 4a. A pair of wires 5<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>a are fed parallel to the wires 1, through straightening devices 7, 7a each into an intermittently advancing feed device V where the wires are clamped in a clamp 8, which is advanced between guides 13, 13a by a lever 9 coupled to an adjustably positioned pull rod 11. The wires 5<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>a extend, after the feeding stroke, out of members 18 at the end of guides 13, 13a into two grooves 17 in a square plate 14, a cutter 20 then, in co-operation with the members 18, shears the wires so that lengths to form transverse members 5a are held in the grooves of plate 14 by, e.g. electromagnets. The plate 14 is then rotated through 90 degrees by a rack and pinion device 13 and the two transverse members 5a are released into a pair of holders 24 on a conveyer 23. A further electromagnet may be arranged below the holders 24. The transverse members 5a are advanced intermittently with the longitudinal wires to the welding machine where the crossing points are welded by the electrodes. In a modification the wires 5<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>a are fed into movable cutting sleeves forming with the members 18 cutting devices and are not fed into the grooves in the rotatable plate until the next feed step. One or more than two grooves may be provided in the plate 14.
