Abstract
1446442 Heat treatment of pipes P T MADDOCK 29 Jan 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 6129/73 Heading C7N [Also in Division F4] The internal surface of a pipe is heated by at least one radiant heater mounted at one end of a radial supply pipe for a combustible gas medium the radial supply pipe extending perpendicularly from the axis of a rotatable supply pipe. In an embodiment compressed air and propane are fed through pipes 1 A and 2A via valves 1 and 2 into mixing chamber 6 and into rotatable supply pipe 10, manifold chamber 12, branch pipes 13A and 13B, telescopic arms 15A and 15B burners 17 which may rotate at 0-12 r.p.m. where they preheat pipes 21 and 22, which may be of internal diameter 3' to 7', prior to butt welding. The supply pipe 10 may be rotated by pneumatic motor 4 fed with compressed air and reduction drive 5. The rotatable supply pipe 10 and associated rotating means may be mounted in an adjustable frame 23 having telescopic legs which may be clamped and bearing spring-loaded wheels to allow movement of the frame along the pipe, the rotatable supply pipe being either aligned with the longitudinal axis of the metal pipe or located so that the burners are nearer the lower part of the metal pipe than the upper part of the pipe.
