Abstract

1443882 Container closures DART INDUSTRIES Inc 7 Oct 1974 [9 Oct 1973] 43433/74 Heading B8T A closure 10 has radial pleats 16 emanating from a flat central portion 18 towards a paripheral wall 12 on which a plurality of separate but continuous sealing beads are formed. To fit the closure it is placed on the container, walls 24, 22, helping to position it correctly, and downward pressure is applied to the region 18. The pleats 16 collapse upon themselves displacing the peripheral walls inwardly. Air expelled from the container egresses through gaps between ribs 32 on the inside of walls 24, 22. When the downward pressure is released, the closure tends to regain its original shape and an hermetic seal is formed between the beads and the interior wall of a container. In the preferred embodiment two radially extending sealing beads 28, 30 are formed on the outer surface 26 of inner seal wall 20. The upper bead 30, of smaller cross-section than bead 28, is formed at an angle to the outer surface 26 of inner seal wall 20.
