Abstract

1433504 Surgeon's mask J-P M DUPRE 27 April 1973 [4 May 1972] 20115/73 Heading AST A method of making face masks, comprises cutting from or defining by lines of weakness in, a sheet of a foamed plastics material having open cells, a blank in the desired shape of the mask and cutting a slit or an opening or defining an opening by lines of weakness, at each end of the blank for looping over the ears. A simple mask comprises a blank having an opening cut in or defined by lines of weakness at each end. Alternatively, blanks are cut from a roll 4, Fig. 2B, having longitudinal folds 5, 5' which are stuck together at 10, 10', 11, 11'. The roll is cut at 6, 6' and 7, 7' to form a mask which is then unfolded to form loops (12), Fig. 2E, (not shown) and a widened central portion (13). In another embodiment, a sheet is doubled on itself and substantially triangular cuts (21, 21'), Fig. 3A, (not shown) are made with the fold (20) forming one side of the triangle, and the sheet unfolded to form a mask. In another embodiment, a band of a thermoplastics material is folded and blanks are formed by cuts 31, 31', Fig. 4A. Further cuts 32, 32', 36, 36' define loops 33, 33', the cuts 36, 36' being welded at 37, 37'. A plurality of masks may be preformed by lines of weakness in a continuous roll which can be separated into individual masks by tearing away appropriate portions.
