Abstract

1427927 Hardeners for urea-formaldehyde resin foams BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 16 April 1973 [14 April 1972] 17432/72 Addition to 1344261 Headings C3C C3R A foaming hardener for use in the production of urea formaldehyde resin foams comprises an aqueous acidic solution of a foaming agent containing up to 25 wt. per cent of urea and dipropylene glycol in such an amount to give on dilution of the hardener to the level used in the foam production 0À2-1À0 wt. per cent of the glycol on the diluted hardener. The foaming hardener, after dilution, is aerated to produce a foam into which the urea-formaldehyde resin solution, which may be foamed, is mixed to produce a urea-formaldehyde resin foam. The foaming agent may be an alkyl aryl sulphonate or sulphonic acid which may be mixed with phosphoric or oxalic acid and the glycol, urea and water to form the hardener.
