Abstract

1422495 Coating apparatus VAN VLAANDEREN CONTAINER MACHINERY INC 14 Feb 1974 [16 Feb 1973] 6851/74 Heading B2L A can 19 or other continuous surface is coated from a printing cylinder 16 with a pattern 15 of cells for coating material having a trailing side and a leading side 24, 25, in both of which the arrangement of cells varies circumferentially of the pattern so that when the can is coated by overlapping material from 'both sides a substantially uniform density coating results. A central portion 23 of uniform maximum density may also be provided. As shown in Fig. 5 a gravure cylinder 16 has a plurality of patterns 15 with uniformly arranged cells of different diameters and is supplied with coating material from a reservoir 17. Excess coating material is wiped off by a doctor blade 21 before transfer via a blanket roller 18 to the cams 19.
