Abstract
1418011 Water actuated switching circuits WALTER KIDDE CO Ltd 28 June 1973 [2 June 1972 31 Oct 1972] 25997/72 and 50217/72 Heading H2H A water actuated electrical actuator comprises spaced electrodes E 1 , E 2 , a relay including a coil C 1 enclosed in a metal screening can SC and a switch S 1 , and an amplifier T 1 , T 2 so that the relay coil is energized by the amplifier when the electrodes are immersed in water. The switch S 1 is normally open to disconnect a pyrotechnic cartridge firing element C 2 from supply lines 1, 2. When a manually operated switch SO is closed and the electrodes E 1 , E 2 are immersed in water a small current flows. This current is amplified by transistors T 1 , T 2 and energizes the coil C 1 thus closing the switch S 1 to energize the element C 2 which enables inflation of a life jacket or life raft. In a modification the amplifier comprises a single transistor.
