1396494 Ceramic slip composition SPRAGUE ELECTRIC CO 6 Feb 1973 5843/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division H1] A ceramic slip concentrate which consists essentially of 69À8-94À8 wt. per cent of a titanate (preferably BaTiO 3 ), a zirconate, a niobate, alumina, porcelain or a ferrite or a mixture of two or more of these, 5-30 wt. per cent of xylene or amyl acetate or a mixture of these, and 0À2-3 wt. per cent of polyethyleneglycol, lecithin, a polyoxyethyleneiso-octylphenylether or a polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether or a mixture of two or more of these. The solids have a particle size of up to 20 Á and the concentrate has a Brookfield viscosity at 25‹ C. of 6000-15,000 cps. The viscosity may be adjusted to 300-1500 cps. by adding solvent to form the slip and 0À2-5 wt. per cent of the solids content of polystyrene, hydrogenated rosin or a polymethacrylate may be added. A ceramic body may be formed by passing a substrate, which may be porous, through a falling curtain of the slip, drying, removing from the substrate and firing.
