Abstract

1396322 #-Adrenergic blocking compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES 26 May 1972 [15 June 1971] 28009/71 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions, in the form of tablets, orally-acceptable solutions, emulsions or suspensions, capsules, injectable solutions, suspensions or emulsions, dispersible powders, sprays or aerosols, contain novel alkanolamine derivatives or pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 3-5 alkyl which is branched at the alpha-carbon atom; R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-10 alkyl or C 6-10 aryl optionally bearing one or more halogen atoms or C 1-4 alkyl radicals, and R<SP>3</SP> is H halogen or C 1-6 alkyl, in association with pharmaceutically acceptable diluents or carriers. The compositions may also contain other active ingredients selected from sedatives, for example phenobarbitone, meprobamate, chlorpromazine or a benzodiazepine, vasodilators, for example glyceryl trinitrate, pentaerythritol tetranitrate or isosorbide dinitrate, diuretics, for example chlorothiazide, hypotensive agents, for example reserpine, bethanidine or guanethidine, myocordial depressants, for example quinidine, agents used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, for example benzhexol, a cardiotonic agents, for example digitalis preparations, or sympathamimatic brochodilators, for example isoprenaline, orciprenaline, adrenaline or ephedrine. The compounds possess #-adrenergic blocking activity. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1260893.
