Abstract

1391235 Electronic watches SUWA SEIKOSHA K K 18 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972(3)] 2700/73 Heading G3T A digital electronic watch, e.g. having a liquid crystal or light-emitting diode display, is selectively operable either to indicate the passing time of day or perform a timer function. In Fig.2 a crystal controlled oscillator 11 output is applied to a counter divider 12 which produces timing signals at 1Hz. Counting circuits 13, 14, 15 send BCD coded signals corresponding to seconds, minutes and hours signals respectively, to the input of a selecting circuit 19. The circuit 19 as part of the timer function also receives further BCD coded signals from memory circuits 16, 17 which 'memorize' either the hours and minutes digits of a predetermined time period at the end of which an alarm is to operate or the hours and minutes digits of a predetermined time at which the alarm is to operate. A selector switch S3 is operable to enable the circuit 19 to select either set of the said BCD coded signals and send the selected signals to a distribution circuit 20 which transforms them into suitable form for operating a digital display (not shown). Thus the display will indicate either time of day or the setting of the timer. For timer operation a coincidence gate 18 senses coincidence between the BCD coded signals from the memory circuits and from the time counting circuits and sends a signal via an amplifier A to an alarm SP, e.g. a buzzer or speaker. Switches S 1 ,S 2 perform a dual function. When S 3 is in one position they are usable to set or correct the passing time of day displayed. When S 3 is in its other position they are used to set the predetermined time or predetermined period. A switch S 5 is provided to start or stop counting by the counting circuit 12 thus enabling correction of the seconds indication. A switch S 4 is a reset switch to reset the display to zero. Where the memory circuits memorize the time period they include subtractors to subtract from the predetermined period the passage of time.
