Abstract

1384833 Helmets H L PENBERTHY 9 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 16887/73 Heading A3V [Also in Division F2] An energy absorbing tin wire link, particularly for safety helmets, e.g. climbing helmets, comprises a helmet shell engaging portion 18b, a crown strap engaging portion 18a, and a plastically deformable mid-section 18a of serpentine configuration oriented transversely to the axis of the link defined by a line joining the portions 18a, 18b along which the force to be absorbed acts. In the embodiment shown, the helmet engaging portion 18b is anchored at one point only but in a further embodiment is anchored at two points, the strap engaging portion 18a being secured by stitching. Instead of two serpentine sections in a continuous loop as shown, a single one may be provided.
