Abstract

1383748 Coated products COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 15 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970 (4)] 48098/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division D1] A base coated with fabric conditioner is fastened to an interior surface of a laundry drier, the base being intrinsically form-retaining or rendered form retaining by the fastening to the surface. The conditioner slowly transfers to hot damp fabrics as they are dried by tumbling. The exemplified conditioners render the fabrics soft and/or static-free but the possibility of rendering the fabrics wrinkle free, perfumed, brightened, bleached, antibacterial or resistant to bacteria or fungi is also mentioned. The specified conditioners are alkylene glycol, glycerol or other polyol polymers and block copolymers and condensates thereof with fatty alcohols and fatty acids, higher fatty acid amides and alkanolamides, water-soluble alkali metal, ammonium or magnesium salts such as fatty alcohol sulphates and sulphonates, alkyl benzene sulphonates, fatty acid acyl taurides and irethionates, fatty acid monoglyceride sulphates, fatty acid sarcosides and glycines, stearates and laurates e.g. triethanol amine laurate, tetraalkyl ammonium salts e.g. halides, acetates, benzoates, saccharrates, alkosulphates and bisulphates and trialkyl benzyl ammonium halides, alkyl pyridine, isoquinolinium and morpholinium salts, alkyl imidazolines e.g. 1- methyl-1-stearyl aminoethyl-2-stearyl imidazolinium methosulphate, higher alkyl amines or oxides thereof, and alkyl guanidine salts. The external coating may be a solid which softens or melts in the damp and/or heated dryer. The base may be a hemispherical polystyrene foam, a half cylinder of paperboard or a sheet of crepe paper, sponge or cloth. The sheets claimed in Specification 1383750, having a coating of conditioner on one side and a preferably pressure sensitive adhesive on the other side may be stuck to the drum or the door of the tumible drier in order to carry out the method of the present invention.
