Abstract
1356264 Foundry mould coatings FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 2 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 3725/71 Heading C3N A liquid composition for coating a sand mould comprises kieselguhr or calcined rice husks and a phosphate binding agent. The composition may contain one or more other particulate refractory materials, e.g. zircon, silica flour, sand, alumina or magnesia. Preferred binding agents are sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate. The liquid medium is preferably aqueous and may contain a binding agent effective at low temperatures, e.g. clay, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, linseed oil, dextrin or a synthetic polymer. The coating should preferably be applied at a coating thickness of 0À1- 1À5 mm.
