Abstract

1356259 Anchors P BRUCE 23 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 40976/70 Heading B7S An anchor 1 comprises a fluke 3 for penetration into a mooring bed to cause burial of the anchor, and a shank 2 for attachment to a cable at a point 5 in the foremost extremity of the shank and linked to the fluke such that the cable attachment point is located in a fore-andaft plane of symmetry of the anchor and spaced at distance S therein from the fluke, the plane of symmetry being orientated vertically in a working burial attitude of the anchor. An elongate transverse member 4 is attached to the shank and/or the fluke and has two elongate surfaces curved lengthwise and disposed one at each side of the plane of symmetry of the anchor. The elongate surfaces are symmetrical about the said plane of symmetry and are arranged such that a point moving on a medial line of one of the surfaces can increase in separation from the cable attachment point while decreasing in separation from the centre of area of the fluke.
