Abstract
1356230 Hot water boiler GUSTAV OSPELT HOVALWERK AG 20 Oct 1972 [23 Oct 1971 1 Aug 1972] 48468/72 Heading F4A A hot water boiler comprises a combustion chamber 9 surrounded by a water jacket 1, a burner 6 mounted on a front cover 7 and firing into the lower portion of the chamber, and an additional water compartment 2 mounted in the upper portion of the combustion chamber and traversed by flue gas tubes 9; gases leaving the combustion area passing through a gap 10 of arcuate cross-section defining a second heating pass between the jacket 1 and the compartment 2 and, via a reversing chamber 13, through the tubes 8 defining a third gas pass to outlet 4. The compartment 2 and the tubes 8 are shown as having a circular cross-section but in further embodiments the tubes 8 are oval (Fig. 3, not shown) and the compartment 2 has a horseshoe shaped cross-section (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The cover 7 is insulated and can be removed or swung out like a door; a horizontal wall 14 being provided in the embodiment shown, to prevent direct passage of gases from the combustion area to the tubes 8. This wall can be formed from ceramic material and either forms a part of the cover or is detachably secured to it. The tubes 8 are provided with heat conducting ribs, either formed by surface profiling or pressed into the tube wall. A connection 11 links the jacket 1 with the compartment 2 and is situated at the highest point of the upwardly sloping compartment.
