Abstract

1355225 Vehicle doors FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 19 Nov 1971 53753/71 Heading B7J A motor vehicle side door comprises an inner panel 1 made of a plastics material and detachably secured to an outer panel 15, a metal member 13 extending lengthwise in the door and secured to one of the panels (inner panel 1 as shown) at the front and rear ends thereof, and a door hinge 22 and a part 23 of a door lock carried at opposite ends respectively of the member 13. The member 13, which comprises a central section 17 and brackets 19 and 21, also carries a guide channel 27 for a window glass and may limit damage to the door in an accident. The inner door panel 1 is moulded to include mounting bosses 3 for a door handle and a window handle 5, and may also include an armrest. The outer panel 15 is preferably made of metal and in an alternative form, Fig. 2 (not shown), the metal member 13 is secured to the outer door panel.
