1348492 Dentifrice compositions COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 30 April 1971 [21 Sept 1970 27 Nov 1970] 44858/70 and 56577/70 Heading A5B Transparent and translucent dentifrices comprise a dentally acceptable water-insoluble particulate polishing agent being a synthetic amorphous complex aluminosilicate salt of an alkali metal (e.g. sodium) or alkaline earth metal (e.g. calcium) in which silica is interbonded with alumina and having a refractive index of 1.44-1.47, up to 20% by weight of moisture and up to 10% by weight of alkali metal oxide or alkaline earth metal oxide, in a gel vehicle having substantially the same refractive index as the polishing agent, and an alkali metal fluorine-providing compound in an amount which provides an effective, non- toxic amount of fluorine-containing ion, the term "alkali metal" including ammonium. The fluorine-providing compound may be sodium fluoride, potassium fluoride, lithium fluoride, amonium fluoride or an alkali metal monofluorophosphate such as sodium, lithium, potassium or ammonium monofluorophosphate, or Na 4 P 3 O 9 F, K 4 P 3 O 9 F, (NH 4 ) 4 P 3 O 9 F, Na 3 KP 3 O 9 F; (NH 4 ) 3 NaP 3 O 9 F or Li 4 P 3 O 9 F. The dentifrice may also contain water, a humectant such as glycerine and/or sorbitol, a gelling agent such as a synthetic inorganic complex silicate clay having the formula [Si 8 Mg 5À1 Li 0À6 H 7À6 O 24 ]<SP>0.6-</SP>Na<SP>+0.6</SP>, active agent such as sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate, a flavouring or sweetening material, colouring or whitening agents or dyestuffs, preservatives, silicones, chlorophyll compounds, ammoniated materials, antibacterial agents and/or additional water-insoluble dental polishing agents.
