Abstract
1345252 Skimming machine GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 19 April 1971 [22 Aug 1970] 23894/71 Heading E1F A machine for skimming sediment from filter beds comprises a mobile raisable frame carrying a conveyor, a sediment-engaging skid, skimming means located behind the skid, and means for conveying skimmed material to the conveyor. The machine, Fig. 3, has a chassis 10 supported on endless tracks 11 and supporting frame 12 carrying inclined skimming plate 16. As the machine advances, plate 16 skims material 18 to a thickness controlled by the position of skid 18 relative to plate 16. Paddles 21, Fig. 4, of rotating drum 22 project skimmed material into trough 23, from where it is removed by buckets 25 of inclined conveyor 24. The buckets dump the material via chute 14 onto a transverse conveyor which may be moved with its side walls to project from either side of the chassis. Paddles 21 may be extruded or retracted with respect to the periphery of drum 22. Frame 12 is pivotally connected to chassis 12 by members 13, 14 and at least partially supported by springs 37. Piston-cylinder units 38 serve to raise frame 12. The conveying side of conveyor 24 is supported by rollers 34, and the return side is guided by one or more rails 36 which engage guide means on buckets 25. Drum 22 may be driven via conveyor 24, or may have separate drive means. The machine trails raisable subsoiler and harrow implements and smoothing rollers to condition the exposed surface.
