Abstract

1343708 Disposable diapers PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 9 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 32394/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division A3] A disposable diaper 10 comprises a water impervious plastics backing sheet, e.g. of polyethylene or polypropylene, a moisture permeable top sheet 12, e.g. of tissue paper, crepe paper or non-woven fabrics, and an absorbent core 14, e.g. of wadding cellulosic fluff or airfelt materials, interposed between the backing sheet and the top sheet 12, the top sheet and backing sheet being superposed and secured together at side seams 18 and 19, and the absorbent core being divided by discontinuities 20, 21, 22 and 23 into a central portion 13, intermediate portions 14 and 15 and outer portions 16 and 17, shaped as shown, the backing sheet and top sheet being secured directly together by adhesive or heat sealing along the discontinuities 20, 21, 22 and 23 to inhibit fluid flow between the various portions of the core. The discontinuities dividing the absorbent core may be “" to #" wide and may alternatively extend from one side of the core to an adjoining side or between opposite sides. In use the diaper is folded along an axis 24 to define portions to be placed at the front and rear of the wearer and is also folded along the discontinuities 20, 21, 22 and 23 such that the portions of the top sheet 12 covering the intermediate portions 14 and 15 of the core are folded against the portion of the top sheet covering the central portion 13, and the portions of the backing sheet covering the outer portions 16 and 17 of the core are respectively folded against the, portions of the backing sheet covering the intermediate portions 14 and 15 of the core, glue spots being provided on the diaper to hold the folds together, the diaper being fastened on the wearer by means of adhesive tape fasteners 36 and 37.
