Abstract
1342728 Dynamo-electric machines JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 23 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 8170/70 Heading H2A The effect of armature reaction in a dynamoelectric machine having at least two opposed, permanently magnetized stator polepieces interacting with a rotor winding supplied through a commutator is reduced by connecting the leading and trailing portions of the rear face of each polepiece to separate yoke members, the magnetic path between which has a high reluctance. In the machine shown in Fig. 2, each polepiece comprises two circumferentially spaced magnets 18, the leading magnets of the two polepieces being interconnected by one yoke member, the trailing magnets by another yoke member. A circumferentially magnetized permanent magnet 20, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be disposed between the two magnets of each polepiece. The latter two magnets may be of the same material. Alternatively, in the case of a motor, the trailing magnets may be of a material having a high coercivity, the leading magnets of a material having a high remanence. In a modification, Fig. 5, each polepiece comprises a single ferrite magnet 32, the leading and trailing portions of each magnet being connected respectively to the trailing and leading portions of the other magnet through yoke members 31, the two yoke members being separated by a space.
