Abstract
1338433 Photographic direct-positive silver halide emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 19 April 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 21021/71 Heading G2C A light-sensitive photographic direct-positive fogged silver halide emulsion is made by adding thereto, after fogging of the silver halide has been completed, at least 1mg of a complex gold salt per mole of silver halide. The addition may be made after all ripening, sensitizing and digestion steps are completed, and may be made at about 40C. The gold complex salt may be an alkali metal or ammonium aurous dithiosulphate (Ex 1 to 3 and 6), alkali metal auric halide complex (Ex 4 and 5), thiourea - auric halide complex (Ex 7), auric chloride -3-ethyl-5-[(3-ethyl -2(3H)-benzoxazolylidene) ethylidene] - rhodamine addition product (Ex 7), alkali metal auric thiocyanate or 1, 1'-diethyl -2, 2'-cyanine auric tetrachloride (Ex 7). The fogged silver halide grains may have an electron acceptor adsorbed to their surface. Fogging may be effected with both a reduction fogging agent and a gold fogging agent. These emulsions show less loss of maximum density on storage than emulsions to which the gold complex salt has not been added without serious impairment of other sensitometric properties e.g. speed.
