Abstract

1336310 Needling machines JOHANN BORGERS KG 23 Oct 1970 [24 Oct 1969] 50518/70 Heading D1R [Also in Division B5] In a needling machine the needles are either locked against longitudinal movement to penetrate a rising web, or are unlocked by a needling pattern mechanism to ride up on, and not penetrate, the rising web. Web 20 is intermittently fed by rollers 23, 24 between plates 26, 28 which are reciprocated vertically beneath needles 13 each locked in position by a bolt 31. Jacquard mechanism 11 is programmed according to the desired needling pattern to withdraw the bolts 20, via cords 36, to allow the needles to rise in their bores 14 with the rising web. Pins 38 reciprocate with the web to press the risen needle down. The well pattern may take the form of needled recessed areas to give a sculptured effect. The web may be formed from two differently coloured webs, the fibres of the upper web being needled through the lower web to form a coloured pattern on the lower web surface.
