Abstract
1333272 Gas discharge lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 35397/71 Heading H1D A wall-stabilized high-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp having an ignition voltage of less than 500 volts comprises a quartz glass discharge vessel which contains mercury, an iodide of at least one of the metals sodium, lithium, cadmium, thallium, indium, tin, dysprosium, gallium, lead, and scandium, and a mixture of neon and argon, and an outer envelope which surrounds the discharge vessel, the space between the discharge vessel and the outer envelope containing a mixture of neon and nitrogen and a hydrogen-selective getter such as zirconium or an alloy thereof, e.g. 84-16 ZrAl. A starting electrode consisting of a bi-metallic strip is secured to one supply lead so as to contact the discharge vessel near the electrode connected to the other supply lead when the lamp is cold, and to move away when the lamp warms up.
