Abstract
1328698 Conveyer addressing system; rail vehicle systems ALLEN PATENTS Ltd and ROBERT STONE & CO Ltd 7 Sept 1970 [8 Sept 1969] 42668/70 Headings B7L and B7N In an overhead chain conveying system in which conveying units 7 with code carrying means are routed past a station 9 where they are each addressed to a selected one of storage sidings 3, the station 9 is followed by a station 10 which can be actuated to cancel an incorrectly set address code. At the storage siding the load carrying skid 42 associated with the unit 7 is moved into the siding, the unit and the code carrying means remaining on the main line. Each code carrying means 8, including a series of coding pins 22 frictionally mounted on two vertical plates 19, is stabilized in position above its conveying unit by a pair of arms 23b which slide on members 23a extending horizontally from the conveyer chain support and by an upper support rail 24. At the addressing station 9 banks of pneumatically operated cylinders 25 are provided each of which can be selectively operated from a central addressing panel to move a wiping arm 27 into the path of a coding pin to set it into an operating position. At the cancelling station 10 a pair of gates can be moved inwardly to engage any operated coding pin and restore it to its unoperated position. At the junction 13 with the siding to which the unit 7 is addressed the coding pin combination operates a switch controlling the air supply to a cylinder 41 which lowers a diverting element 14 from its upper inoperative position to its lower diverting position. The element 14 includes a rising portion 43 and when a skid 42 being diverted moves up this it disengages from conveyer unit on conveyer 1 and is then routed on a downward slope 43a to the storage siding. On the storage siding a stacking conveyer is provided to closely stack the load carrying skids. At the end of the siding, a switch is provided for routing the skids to a processing plant for their loads.
