Abstract

1319947 Thermal switches STERNCO INDUSTRIES Inc 12 May 1971 [19 Aug 1970] 14405/71 Heading H1N [Also in Division H5] A portable immersion heater, for mounting on an aquarium wall 32, comprises a glass tube 11 containing an electric heating element 12 and being yieldably supported in a heatresistant casing 10 by a resilient bushing 20, the heater including a bimetal thermostat 46 with co-operating contact arms 45, 47, supported from a bar 52 depending from a cover member 33 closing the casing 10 and being adjustable by a control rod 37, which passes through and is in screw-threaded engagement with the cover 33 and is moved by a rotatable knob 41 which has a wall 53 abutting the cover 33 at a predetermined lower limit position of rod 37, the easing 10 and cover 33 having lateral extensions 24, 38, defining a passageway for electrical conductors 39a, 39b, supplying current to the heating element 12, and a fuse 54 being interposed beween and connected in series with the element 12 and thermostat 46. Casing 10 has apertures 15 through which water moves to surround the tube 11, when the heater is immersed, and for permitting air circulation between tube 11 and casing 10 when the heater is removed from the water. A lamp 56, indicating operation of the heater, is visible through an aperture 55. The thermostat 46 includes a bimetallic arm 47. A clamping knob 29 mounts the heater to rim 31 of the aquarium wall 32.
