Abstract

1306681 Gas turbine engine combustion equipment DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 29 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 63599/69 Heading F1L The invention relates to combustion equipment for gas turbine engines of the kind comprising an outer air casing 16 within which is disposed a flame tube 15 and to the disposition of a torch igniter 28. The equipment shown is of the annular, reverse flow type, a main fuel injector 19 being disposed at the head 39 of the flame tube, the injector comprising a J-tube into which fuel is supplied through inlet 21. Air inlet openings 30 are formed in the flame tube walls. A torch igniter 28 comprising a pilot fuel injector 31 and a spark plug 29 is provided in a recess 32 formed in the wall of the air casing 16. A baffle member 33 projects into the air flow passage 26 upstream of the torch igniter whereby vortices 37 are formed in the air flow to permit formation of the flame from the torch igniter which flame passes round the head of the flame tube and into the flame tube through inlet openings 30.
