Abstract

1305166 Vacuum cleaner SUNBEAM CORP 23 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 54393/71 Heading A4F An upright vacuum cleaner comprises a body 12 having a handle 13 at its upper end, Fig. 1 (not shown), a nozzle 11 pivotally connected to the body, a motor 96 driving a fan 98, and a motor switch 46 arranged to be moved to its off position when the body is in its vertical non-operative position. The pivoting action is provided by cooperating cylindrical surfaces on the nozzle and the body. Switch 46 has an actuator 46a spring- biassed to the on position but movable to the off position by lug 44 on the nozzle. Catches 36 are spring-biassed outwardly through slots in the nozzle wall, Fig. 6 (not shown) and engage a lip 126 on the body to releasably lock the body in its vertical non-operative position. The motor may be driven at one of two speeds selected by switch 134 and a lamp 136 is arranged to be illuminated whenever the motor runs, a transparent section 74 being provided in the wall of the body in front of the lamp. The dust is separated in a filter bag attached by a rubber ring to exhaust conduit 54, and filtered air passes through filter 100 and screen 102 into the motor compartment, past the motor 96 and lamp 136, and out of the body through vents 76. A cap 110 may be removed from an aperture 106a in the wall of the suction channel 56 to allow a suction hose to be connected. The nozzle 11 consists of an upper part 14 and a lower part 16 held together by a rubber bumper band 18.
