Abstract

1303404 Retapping spark plug holes PHILLIPS SCREW CO 25 Aug 1971 [2 Sept 1970] 39925/71 Heading B3N A tool for reworking spark plug holes of soft metal cylinder heads comprises a working part 10 and a holding part 11, said part 10 having a tool-engaging portion 26, a threaded portion at its opposite end, a reamer portion 20, 21 and a tapping portion having thread 23, and said holding portion having a threaded portion for engaging said threaded portion of said working part. In operation the working part is screwed through a sparking plug hole until it projects from the other end and is engaging with the holding part. This part 11 has serrations 15 so that it is held against rotation by the head thus enabling part 10 to be pulled through the bore without any wobbling during the reaming stage. The reaming portion comprises two different diameters which are followed by a tapered section 22 serving as a lead-in to tapping thread 23. A reamer portion 24 cuts a countersink in the mouth of the spark plug port to house the flange of a threaded insert which is to fitin the newly tapped hole.
