Abstract

1296910 Offshore structures OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY CORP 18 June 1970 [7 July 1969] 29565/70 Heading E1H A floating platform for a drilling derrick 36 includes hulls 22, 34 and buoyancy columns 26 attached by universal joints 28, the hulls being interconnected by columns 30 and a tube 56 containing an elevator (not shown). Mechanisms are provided in the hull 34 to move or fix the columns 30 relative thereto as required, Figs. 16 to 18 (not shown). Tanks 24 in the hull 22 and compartments in the columns 26, Figs. 12 and 14 (not shown), can be flooded for ballasting purposes. When in situ the hull 22 is submerged and the hull 34 is held above the surface 32, as shown; and when in transit the hull 22 floats at the surface with the hull 34 resting thereon and the columns 26 float horizontally, Fig. 2 (not shown). The columns 26 may be detached when in transit.
