Abstract

1295089 Continuous furnaces R HALL 26 Oct 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 52631/69 Heading F4B In a throughflow furnace 10 for burning out vehicle bodies which is provided with an auxiliary smoke consuming chamber S, the bodies are intermittently transported through the furnace on a conveyer comprising slats 15 extending between endless driven chains 12 which run in channels 16 mounted in the side walls of the main furnace chamber. Oil or gas burners B1, B2 are provided in the main and smoke consuming chambers respectively. Secondary combustion air is supplied to chamber S via inlets J, and to the main chamber via jets (not shown) mounted in the channels 16 to keep the chains 12 cool. Sliding access doors 6, 8 and removable chain bearing pads (not shown) in the channels 16 are also provided. The burner B2 in chamber S burns with a long flame below a first set temperature, and with a short flame above a second set temperature whilst between these temperatures it burns with a long or a short flame depending whether or not smoke is present within the main furnace chamber.
