1285339 Disazo dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 58278/68 Heading C4P The invention comprises water-insoluble disazo dyes, free from SO 3 H, COOH and cationic groups, of formula wherein Z is H or an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical which may be substituted, T<SP>1</SP> and T<SP>2</SP> are H, CN, COOR<SP>1</SP>, CONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>, COR<SP>1</SP>, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical which may be substituted and T<SP>1</SP> may also be an OH group, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are H or an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical which may be substituted or the group -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> is the radical of a 5- or 6- membered heterocyclic ring and D is a divalent aryl radical containing at least two aromatic rings which may optionally be fused, the azo groups being attached to different nuclei. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized amine D. (NH 2 ) 2 with an appropriate 2-hydroxy- 6-pyridone. The dyes may be used to colour synthetic fibres and paints in yellow and red shades.
