Abstract
1278252 Dyeing with polymerizable dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 April 1969 [17 April 1968] 18118/68 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 C4 and D1] Fibrous materials and polymeric films are dyed by treating with a solution of an azo dyestuff of the Formula I in which A is the residue of a diazo component of the benzene, naphthalene or stilbene series, E is the residue of a 5-pyrazolene, 5-aminopyrazole, or acylacetarylamide coupling component or of an ortho-coupled 2-naphthyamine, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each independantly represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group P which is directly attached to a carbon atom in the dyestuff is -O-, -NR 4 -, or -NR 4 NR 5 -, in which eases Q is a direct link or a linkage -CO-, -COO-, -CONH-, or -CSNH- or P is -CO- in which case Q is -O-, -S-, or -NR 4 -, in which R 4 and R 5 are each independantly hydrogen or optionally substituted lower C 1-4 alkyl, Y is an optionally substituted alkylene radical Z is a whole number, m is a whole number having a value at least 2, n is zero or 1, the treatment being carried out in conjunction with a polymerization initiator. Preferably P is -O- or -NR 4 -, Q is -CO-, and n is zero, R 2 and R 3 are H, R 1 is -CH 3 and m is 2 or 3. Substrates dyed include cotton, cellulose acetate, wool, silk, synthetic polyamides, polyurethanes, optionally modified polyacrylonitrile. The polymerization catalyst may be applied after the dyestuff or together with it after which the catalyst is activated. Polymerization catalysts include peroxides, peracids, peresters, percarbonates, azo compounds and redox systems. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,046,751.
