Abstract
1277461 Jointing; tube expanding; rolling tubes W W MOUNT 3 June 1969 [5 June 1968] 28057/69 Headings B3J B3M and B3U [Also in Division F2] The method of joining two metal pipe sections together as described in Specification 1,153,150 is further characterized in that the pipe sections are maintained in axial alignment during the joining operation by a mandrel (Fig. 4A, not shown) or by guides 26, Fig. 7. In an embodiment described, the end of the pipe section 1 is flared by moving a pipe gripper 45 by piston and cylinder units 38, 41, 40, 42 towards a flaring tool 53 positioned on the piston rods 41, 42. After removing the flaring tool 53, the pipe section 1 is forced over the other stationary pipe section which is gripped by a gripper 31 connected to the cylinders 38, 40. The internal restriction formed by the bent-in nose of the inner pipe section of the joint may be removed by a rotating grinding wheel (15) (Fig. 4, not shown) or a pair of rollers 18, Fig. 5, attached to a rotatable shaft 17 and movable into engagement with the pipe section by fluid operated cylinders 21.
