Abstract

1,272,501. Electric Shavers. SCHICK ELECTRIC Inc. 16 Jan., 1970 [13 March, 1969], No. 2278/70. Heading B4B. An electric shaver comprises an elongated housing 12 having at least one elongated inner cutter disposed within an outer cutter on one side of the housing and a motor 50 coupled to an actuator 66 for moving the inner cutter(s) relative to the outer cutter(s). The motor 50 may be driven by an A.C. power supply or by a battery (rechargeable or standard) and comprises a stator and rotor to which a shaft head 58 is fixed. The shaft 58 has a shaft head 60 comprising an eccentric lug 64 which, in operation, contacts upper and lower lips 74 on the end of the actuator 66 which is pivoted at 68. The actuator 66 has an arm 72 and a pair of arms 73, the latter being coupled with a pair of inner cutters of a double shaving head 42, and the former coupling with the inner cutter of a single cutting head 44 having wider gaps between the blades for cutting longer hair. Slidable covers 33,35 are provided and hinged closures 34, 36 for removal of cut hairs, normally biased closed by springs 79, are provided at the end of the shaver towards which the cut hairs are directed by the blades during shaving. The closures 34, 36 have projections 81, 83 which co-operate with the springs 79 so that they will snap open when rotated past their dead-centre point. The shaving heads 42, 44, are retained by clips 76.
