Abstract

1,270,025. Liquid sampling apparatus. R. SAINT-ANDRE. 13 May, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 24432/69. Heading B8N. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for sampling liquids in hydraulic circuits comprises a body portion 1 having a cavity 2 containing a valve stem 3 having passages 12, 13, 14 and a pointed end 4 closing an aperture 5 connecting the cavity 2 with the circuit. The valve stem has a collar 10 supported on springs 9 mounted in a further collar 6 resting on a support member 7 screwed to the body portion 1. When the support member 7 is unscrewed, the valve stem is lowered until the collar 6 rests on stops 11. The member 7 is then completely removed and the stem 3 is pulled down opening the aperture 5 and allowing liquid sample to pass through the passages 12, 13 into the central passage 14 and be collected at the open end 16. Some liquid leaks between the body portion 1 and valve stem 3 and this is passed out through a leak circuit 15 comprising a needle valve (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), screwed into the passage 15 or a spring-biased valve (22), Fig. 3 (not shown), which allows the liquid to flow out when its pressure is greater than the force exerted by the spring (23). The support member 7 may have a notched extension 26 which may be used to engage projections 28 on the valve stem 3 and pull the stem downwards, and a recess 7a to receive the sample.
