1,262,887. Tampon applicators. KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP. 18 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 8801/69. Heading A5R. A tampon inserting device comprises an outer tube 11 containing an absorbent tampon 12, an inner member 13 telescoped in one end thereof, and a thin open-ended sleeve 15 of plastics film attached to the forward portion of the outer tube extending beyond the end thereof and folded back on itself along a single line as at 16. The film may be of opaque polyethylene and is not more than 0.5 mm thick, and its outer surface may be coated with a lubricant such as petroleum jelly or surgical jelly. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) the tampon (32) is disposed slightly back from the front opening (40) of the tube (31) so that the folded-over portion (36) of the sleeve (35) may be tucked into the opening. The applicator tube may be made of paper, plastic or cardboard, and the absorbent body of the tampon may have a withdrawal string 14 attached thereto. The sleeve 15 may be attached to tube 11 by heat sealing adhesives or by heat shrinking. When a lubricant is used on the sleeve the assembly is enclosed in a removable protective wrapper.
