Abstract
1,262,137. Controlling compressors. 0. F. MUNGUET. Jan. 23, 1969 [Jan. 25, 1968], No.32749/71. Divided out of 1, 262, 136. Heading F1N. A throttle valve (not shown) in the inlet to a compressor is automatically adjusted to maintain the output pressure within predetermined limits. The throttle valve is adjustable by rotating a shaft 33<SP>1</SP> movable by a device 10 comprising pistons 31, 32 loaded by springs of differing rate. The pistons are subjected to the pressure in the compression cylinder 7 through a tube 29, 29a, 29b filled with liquid or connected directly to the cylinder 7. Assuming the final compression pressure lies between the predetermined limits, then only the low-pressure piston 31 is moved. This causes pivoting of a lever 34 and consequential anti-clockwise rotation of a ratchet 33 connected to the shaft 33<SP>1</SP>, However, this adjustment is immediately nullified by equal rotation of the ratchet in the reverse direction by a lever 35 actuated by a crankshaft driven cam 37. If the pressure is excessive, piston 32 is also operated to cause twice the amount of anti-clockwise movement, whereas if the pressure is too low neither piston is actuated. Hence the subsequent operation of the lever 35 causes a change in the adjustment of the throttle. Gas compressed in the cylinder 7 may pass to a valve which directs the output either through a by-pass line or through the inlet valve of a second stage cylinder.
