Abstract
1,258,503. Zinc electrode. UNIGATE Ltd., and J. M. JENKINS. 11 Feb., 1970 [21 Feb., 1969], No. 9220/71 Divided out of 1,258,502. Heading H1B. [Also in Division C7] The description is similar to that of the Specification 1,258,502, but the claims are directed to the zinc electrode which electrode comprises a substrate of anodizable metal of Group IVA or VA of the Periodic Table, preferably titanium, of open mesh apertured, expanded metal or porous metal form, coated with zinc or a zinc containing alloy or salt. The electrode may be made by applying zinc powder mixed with NH 4 Cl to the substrate and then sintering under pressure, the NB 4 Cl imparting the desired porosity. Alternatively, the zinc powder may be mixed with a synthetic resin powder such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, PTFE, polypropylene, nylon, or rubber nitrile and applied to the substrate and then cured. Alternatively, the substrate may be sprayed with molten zinc or dipped into molten zinc covered with a layer of zinc chloride or the substrate may be electroplated with zinc. The electrodes can be used in the rechargeable zinchalogen electrolytic cells using carbon electrodes which carbon electrodes and cells are claimed in the Specification 1,258,502.
