Abstract
1,249,515. Enamelling metals. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. 1 July, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 33085/69. Heading C1M. Enamelled metal products are formed by applying a layer of enamel to the metal surface, baking the enamel, treating the enamelled surface with IN to 5N dilute acid (e.g. HC1) to plasticize the enamel, shaping the metal, and re-baking the enamel. The composition of the enamel may be such that the treatment with acid renders the enamel acid-resistant. In an example an enamel of composition (weight per cent): K 2 0 + Na 2 O .. .. 20 B 2 O 3 .. .. 15 Al 2 O 3 .. 7 SiO 2 .. .. .. 50 CaF 2 +CaO .. .. 6 Balance minor constituents, was applied electrophoretically to a metal sheet to form a layer 120 Á thick, baked at 810‹ C. for 3 minutes, cooled, treated with INHCl for 10 minutes, shaped and re-baked at 810‹ C.
