Abstract

1,240,179. Weighing apparatus. SAFEWAY STORES Inc. Nov.15, 1968 [Dec.14, 1967], No. 54408 /68 Heading G1W. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for weighing and labelling articles comprises a conveyer 23 for conveying the articles 11, a diverting device 24 for diverting at least some of the articles from the conveyer 23 to a weighing and labelling station where each diverted article is weighed and has attached to it a label indicating its weight, and a conveyer for transporting the labelled articles to a packing table 69. As shown, the articles, which may be blocks of cheese, are each diverted from the conveyer 23 at one of four stations to a further conveyer 83 and are then moved in succession by the arms 88, 89, 90 of a reciprocating conveyer 87 to a weighing device 27 and then a labelling device 28, the weighing device 27 being arranged to actuate a printing mechanism whereby a label is printed in accordance with the weight of an article being weighed, such label being applied to the article and pressed firmly thereto as the article passes through the labelling device. The labelled articles are directed by way of a chute 31 to a conveyer 32 which transports the articles via an accumulator 65 to the packing table 69.
