Abstract

1,221,156. Water - in - silicone emulsions. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 11 July, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 35076/69. Heading C3T. A water-in-oil emulsion comprises 50-85 wt. per cent of water, dispersed in a polydimethylsiloxane to which is bonded through a C 1-5 alkylene group by a C-Si bond at least one polyoxyalkylene group-(OC n H 2n ) x OR, wherein n is 2 and/or 3, x is 2 to 12 and R is H, SiR<SP>1</SP> 3 , where R<SP>1</SP> is an organic radical, or a C 1-4 alkyl or acyl radical, the polyoxyalkylene groups amounting to 10-35 wt. per cent of the polysiloxane. Preferably the polysiloxane comprises only the units (CH 3 ) 2 SiO and RO(C n H 2n O) x ZSi(CH 3 ) 2 O 1/2 , where Z is a C 1-5 alkylene group; up to 30 mol. per cent of the former may be replaced by units (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 1/2 , and all or part of the latter by RO(C n H 2n O) x ZSi(CH 3 )O units. Optional adjuvants include scent, pigments, white petroleum jelly and fillers, e.g. ZnO, TiO 2 and SiO 2 . In Example 1 diethylene glycol monoallyl ether is heated with trimethyl chlorosilane then with a polysiloxane having 83 mol. per cent (CH 3 ) 2 SiO and 17 mol. per cent (GH 3 ) 2 HSiO 1/2 . In Example 2 a diethyleneoxy dipropyleneoxy allyl ether is heated with acetic anhydride then with a polysiloxane (CH 3 ) 2 SiO (66.5 mol. per cent) (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 1/2 (22.25 mol. per cent) and (CH 3 )HSiO (11À25 mol. per cent). In both cases the addition catalyst, is H 2 PtCl 6 in ethanol. The products are emulsified with water, and the product of Example 1 with white petroleum jelly and perfume. Uses.-Skin-care agents, ointment bases.
