A mowing machine comprising a plurality of bladed moving members 2 is characterized by underlying supports 9 having rims 10 which protrude from the members 2 and engage the ground surface at a distance from an adjacent knife 8 which is not greater than the distance between the rotary axis 12 of the mowing member and the rim 10, whereby the knives remain clear of contact with the ground surface. Fast on a shaft 3 is a support plate 15 to which the member 2 is secured by means of dowels 14 and pins 16. The support 9 is secured to a sleeve 11 which is rotatably mounted on the shaft 3 by a bearing cage.
