Abstract
1,212,241. Chemical analysis apparatus. MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE-VETERINARY SERVICE. 1 Jan., 1968 [12 Jan., 1967], No. 107/68. Heading B1X. A machine for performing laboratory analyses comprises three fixed syringes S 1 , S 2 , S 5 coupled to reservoirs for discharging predetermined quantities of liquid into preselected test tubes 2 arranged in a number of supports 4, two syringes S 3 and S 4 mounted together on support 46 for withdrawing a sample of liquid from one of the preselected test tubes and introducing it into the other of the preselected test tubes, one of the syrnges S 3 and S 4 being operative for one support 4 while the other is inserted in a rinsing tank 51, the syringes S 1 , S 2 S 3 , S 4 , S 5 having pneumatically operated pistons. The series of tubes 2 are supported on plates 4 which are moved under the syringes step by step by endless belt 9 which is automatically synchronised with the pneumatic syringe actuating means, electromagnetic valves E 1 -E 1 . Support 46 is arranged for vertical reciprocating movement by pneumatic actuator V6 and horizontal pivotal reciprocatory motion by pneumatic actuator V;. Belt 9 has internal notches which co-act with toothed driving wheel 16, wheel 16 being operatively connected to a shaft 17 driven through a unidirectional coupling device 18 responsive to a reciprocating angular motion caused by connecting rod 21 and wheel 22 (Fig. 8). The wheel 22 is driven by shaft C which also rotates cams C 1 , C 3 , C 6 , A 1 , A 2 , A 3 , A 5 , A; which control electrical contacts 65, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 75, 76, 77 inserted in the energizing circuits of electromagnetic valves E 1 -E 7 which control the pneumatic actuation of the syringes S 1 -S 5 and the vertical and horizontal reciprocating movement of support 46 and attached syringes S 3 , S 4 . The energizing circuits are rendered operative by contacts 60, 61, 62 responsive to the presence of plates 4 and hence test tubes 2 under the corresponding syringes. (For Figures see next page)
