Abstract

1,202,993. Treating webs with liquid. RODNEY HUNT CO. 31 July, 1968 [1 Aug., 1967; 19 June, 1968], No. 36493/68. Heading D1L. A web 22 is passed through a bath 10 of liquid in which it is first soaked in sinuous in a zone 20, then treated in inverted U-shaped form in a chamber 30 with a high velocity recycle stream of liquid, and finally sprayed with fresh liquid from a series of nozzles 47. A vibratable reed member (56, Fig. 3) may be situated in the liquid outlet of chamber 30 between the up- and downgoing sides of the web. In a modification the material may pass upwards through a soaking zone (74, Fig. 5) within bath 10.
