Abstract

A lubricant comprises a naphthene-plusparaffin fraction derived from a mineral lubricating oil, having less than 0À5% of the total number of carbon atoms in aromatic rings and containing less than 0À05 wt. per cent sulphur. The oil may contain a load-carrying additive, e.g. chlorinated hydrocarbons, chlorbenzyl esters of xanthic and thiocarbonic acids, phenol sulphides, thioethers, thiocarbonates, thiocarbamates, sulphur-substituted esters, sulphurized compounds, alkyl disulphides, phosphosulphurized compounds, phosphates, thiophosphates, lead naphthenate, organo-tin dithiophosphates, phosphoramidates, nitro compounds, amino and ammonium phosphates and thiophosphates and rhodamine.
