Abstract

1,193,236. Cutting tool assembly. Z. BRIERLEY. 27 Jan., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7170/68. Heading B3T. A cutting tool comprises a slide 21 movable on a body member 10 which is mountable on a lathe, a cutter element 29 adjustably carried by the slide and cutter setting means in the form of a locator 43 removably carried on the slide whereby the tip of the cutter is aligned with the centre line of a circular sectioned element or workpiece. In use the body member 10 is secured to the lathe and the locator mounted on the edge 40 of the slide 21 by pegs 46, 47 which engage in a bore 41 and slot 42 respectively and the cylindrical workpiece 54 is brought into engagement with the surface 55 of the stepped arm 50 by adjustment of the slide the upper surface 51 of the arm being then in alignment with the centre line of the workpiece. The slide is clamped in this position and the cutting element is moved, by releasing the nut and bolt members 34, 39, to bring a cutting edge of the cutter into register with the top surface 51 of the locator. The elements 34 and 39 are then retightened and the cutter is locked in its correct position for subsequent use. The locator is then removed from the slide and stored by locating it on the base of the body member 10. The cutting element described is in the form of a notched circular disc providing a plurality of cutting edges each of which is positioned as described above. Single point tools may also be set up in the manner described. (Specification 980,364 is referred to).
