Abstract

1,182,584. Fungicides containing pyrimidines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 Feb., 1967 [31 March, 1966], No. 14271/66. Heading A5E. [Also in Divisions A2 and C2] Fungicidal compositions comprise as active ingredient a pyrimidine of the formula where R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, a heterocyclic ring, a benzylidene-imino group, an amino or sulphur-free substituted amino group, a cyano group, an optionally substituted carbamoyl group or a -CO.R or -SO 2 R group where R is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, or R 1 and R 2 together with the N atom form a heterocyclic ring, R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or halogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical attached to the pyrimidine ring through -O- or -S-, a heterocyclic-substituted alkyl group, a nitro group, an azophenyl group or an alkylsulphonyl group, or R 3 and R 4 together form an alkylene or an alkenylene bridging group, and X is O or S and the ethers of such hydroxy- and mercapto-pyrimidines, together with a solid diluent or a liquid diluent containing a surface active agent. A large number of pyrimidines are specified, particularly preferred compounds being 2- dimethylamino-4-methyl-5- n-butyl-6-hydroxypyrimidine and 2-ethylamino-4-methyl-5-nbutyl-6-hydroxypyrimidine, also known as dimethirimol or ethirimol, respectively. The compositions may take the conventional forms and include the usual additives. The active compounds or the compositions may be applied to plants susceptible to fungal attack, or to the seed of such plants or to the soil in which they are grown. Examples 15-22 relate to fungicidal compositions.
