Abstract

1,169,817. Control systems for incandescent lamps. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. 13 March, 1967 [2 April, 19661, No. 11595/67. Heading H2H. [Also in Division H3] In order to prevent overheating of a circuit including an incandescent lamp 5, the power supply to the lamp is controlled by means including a bi-directional semi-conductor device 1 and a temperature variable resistor 10. The resistor 10 is situated so as to be responsive to the components in the circuit and is electrically connected in a bridge network comprising a variable resistor 11. The output of the bridge charges a capacitor 8 until such time as a second bi-directional semi-conductor device breaks down, whereupon the capacitor 8 discharges through the winding 4 of a so-called pulse transformer to cause a short, high amplitude pulse to be developed in the winding 2 of the transformer. The device 1 thereupon breaks down to pass current to the lamp 5, the period of conduction of the device 1 in a cycle being determined by the setting of resistor 11 and the resistance of the temperature sensitive resistor 10. If desired, the resistor 10 may be replaced by a similar serially connected resistor 9.
