Abstract
1,167,086. Coring cabbage. INSTITUT FœR O B S T - U N D GEMUSEVERARBEITUNG. 12 Jan., 1967, No. 1765/67. Heading A4C. An apparatus for boring out raw vegetable produce, particularly cabbage heads, comprises a turntable 1 rotated on axle 2 by motor 21 and having a plurality of apertures 3 to hold the cabbages. Below each aperture is a drill 4 on the shank of which is adjustably mounted a knife 6 for scoring the outer leaves. The drills are rotated in unison by motor 25; V-belt 24 and pulleys 24<SP>1</SP> and are moved vertically to and from the cabbages as the turntable rotates by means of rollers 30 running on cam 7, the height of which can be adjusted to alter the depth of penetration of the drills; The cabbages are held in position in the apertures by arms 12 carried on shafts 13 sliding vertically in bearings 14 and operated by cam 15. The arms are clamped in position on the cabbages by spring-loaded levers 17 each having a threaded hole of larger diameter but of the same pitch as a threaded spindle 16 passing through the hole and fastened to shaft 13, the levers being released from the locked position by means of cam 20. A disc knife 11 cuts off any remaining stem before the drilling process. An eject- or 26 lifts the processed cabbage out of its aperture 3. The waste falls on to plate 27 and is removed from the apparatus by stripper 28.
