A filing folder made from a single colour material, but distinguished from other folders by the colour of its spine, is made from a single transparent sheet of plastics material which is folded to define rear and front covers 1, 2 and a spine 3, Fig. 1. The distinguishing colour is provided by associating the spine 3 with a coloured longitudinally folded strip 12 of cardboard or plastics material which is retained in position by a plastics or metal sheet engaging member 5, Fig. 2, whose ends 6 are passed through holes 4, either in the rear or front cover 1, 2. The sheet engaging member 5, which protrudes externally is protected by a transparent, thermo-welded pocket 9, which may be used for insertion of index tabs. A similar pocket 9<SP>1</SP> is provided on the front cover 2 (Fig. 3). In a further embodiment the rear and front covers 21, 22, Fig. 5, are formed from rigid opaque plastics material and the covers are thermo-welded to a spine 24 of transparent plastics material which is then associated with the coloured folded strip 12. A transparent sheet 29 may be thermo-welded along the spine. a bottom edge 28 and part of free marginal edge 28<SP>1</SP>, to define a pocket for loose, unperforated sheets. In a still further embodiment (Fig. 6) the sheet 29 may have an extension 33, which is used to form the spine 3.
